I love Saturn. Well, I like Saturn, I should say. I love Saturn when he brings stability. I love Saturn when he brings a sense of being centered. I love Saturn when he brings discipline.I have Saturn trine Mars. I love to challenge myself. Once, I went on a thirty day juice fast. I practice the guitar for an hour every day. When I got my masters degree, I was the only student who finished a two year program in a year and a half. It is very satisfying to set a difficult goals, stick to them and look back with pride. Saturn is the author of this.

Saturn gets a bad reputation and he does deserve it, at times. I will discuss that later. However, Saturn is very necessary because he BALANCES fun. Saturn balances wildness. Saturn balances selfishness. Saturn makes us do what we NEED to do. We may not like this, but we would be lost without it.Think of a person who has accomplished a great deal, such as a CEO. Saturn was his taskmaster, so to speak, and not in a bad way. The person had to wake up early, work long hours, study hard, learn how to deal with people and learn how to manage himself. The Bible has a proverb which relates. “He who has mastered himself is greater than he who governs a great city”. This is a paraphrase, but you get the idea. Saturn makes you buckle up and buckle down.

I have Saturn trine the Moon at a seven degree orb. Saturn trine the Moon is a lovely aspect for being centered. I think one of the most wonderful feelings in the world is to be centered. I picture Saturn trine the Moon as a very old, oak tree. It has seen storms and survived. The Moon is one’s gentle heart. It is one’s deepest emotions. In the trine, the native can anchor onto the old oak tree in times of trouble. There is a great source of strength from Saturn trine the Moon. Hence, Saturn is a very fortunate planet when he is in trine or sextile. I wish I had Saturn trine the Moon at a closer orb. However, I am thankful for the strength he has conferred on me.

Picking up the theme of Saturn in trine and sextile, we will elaborate on Saturn trine or sextile some other planets. First of all, the difference between a trine and a sextile is that a trine is an unearned gift. It is simply bestowed on the native through no effort of her own. The sextile is a gift but it must be “dug up” and developed. Saturn trine the Sun is someone who can discipline his ego. Hence, he can accomplish great things. Think of Herman Cain. I think he worked his way up to CEO. He is a shining example of Sun trine Saturn, although I have never seen his chart. He is an example only.

Saturn trine Venus is a native who takes love seriously. She would not toy with the emotions of another. She values and honors the sanctity of love. his aspect would make for a person who would be an excellent spouse. She would take the marriage vows very seriously.

Saturn trine Mercury would be a native who could discipline her mind. I do not know if Stephen King has this. However, he is my favorite author, so I will use him as an example. He has to discipline himself to write. He talks about this in his books. Most books do not come easily. They are a result of his nose to the grindstone. It appears as if they flowed effortlessly. That is THE mark of the genius that he is.

Let’s look at the hard aspects for a bit. Saturn in square or opposition can be a hard taskmaster, yielding the leather whip. The native may have been criticized as a child. When he grows up, he hears the voice of the critical parent in his head. With Saturn in square and opposition, the native may not enjoy his tasks, as I do with the Mars trine Saturn. He will, likely feel DRIVEN to perform and achieve. The hard aspects operate very differently than the easy/good aspects. This is just a fact and understanding it will help you to understand the charts.

Saturn in hard aspect to the Sun may make for a person who feels he does not have what it takes to undertake tasks. He may give up before he starts, simply because goals seem so very daunting. Saturn in hard aspect to Venus may make for a Venus who feels love is too hard to handle. He may not be able to balance responsibility with freedom. This is hard for anyone, but for the person with the Saturn/Venus square, it may be nearly impossible. In such cases, the person needs to find compensating positive aspects in the chart. Every person has struggles. The way to deal with them is to magnify one’s blessings. This is not an exhaustive study of Saturn in all aspects, but a general idea of how Saturn functions.

I was going to talk about synastry here, but the article is getting very long. I am a Gemini and don’t like long articles, usually, because they seem daunting. Just fire up your Saturn, I guess. However, I will say a few words about synastry before I leave. Saturn in trine and sextile will be a wonderful glue to keep you together through thick and thin. Saturn in hard aspect may make for the Saturn person being too critical of the planet person. Saturn in conjunction is considered a hard aspect, in my opinion. If you would like a detailed article about Saturn in synastry, I would be happy to write it.
