Astrology is a language. One has to learn the parts and then COMBINE and BLEND them to make the whole. The whole is the entire natal chart of a person. The natal chart shows the BLUEPRINT of a person. Hence, it is very important to understand our own charts and those of the people we love. I will try to make a difficult subject easy.
The Sun
The Sun is one’s sense of self. It is one’s most basic identity. It is one’s basic thrust. The Sun can be guessed most easily because it is the “largest part of the person”. If we think in terms of you as an energy ball, the Sun would take up the most space in the energy ball. The Sun is the core essence of the person. We have to be careful with words because the Moon is the heart of the person. The Sun is the “you of you”. The Sun would be you as a CEO of the rest of the chart. I hope that is a good description.
Sun Conjunctions
In Sun conjunctions, one’s ego is MODIFIED by another planet. This can be good or bad, positive or negative, a challenge or a gift. Let’s study some examples. When Jupiter conjuncts the Sun, the native is infused with Jupiter’s positive energy. This native would, likely, be a positive person who radiates positive energy. Think of the coach of a football team. He has to lift up the spirits of his team members. Jupiter in conjunction to the Sun is a good/positive/gift like aspect.
Let’s consider Saturn conjunct the Sun. This is a bad/non positive/ difficult/struggle aspect. Saturn is the stern father. Saturn is discipline. Saturn is maturity. We need Saturn, but Saturn in hard aspect, of which the conjunction is one, can become too severe of a task master. He can break or severely diminish the spirit of the native. I think we all can relate to someone who demanded perfection of us. Our spirits were diminished, if not broken. That is the nature of Saturn in hard aspect. In Sun conjunct Saturn, the native, likely, had a father who demanded too much of him. The native may carry the critical voice of his father in his head and it may last for a lifetime. the native may be afraid to go after goals because of fear of failure.
Let’s discuss the Sun/Pluto Conjunction. In this case, the native is very strong. I love this conjunction, myself. I love to see a person who is a natural leader, of which the Sun/Pluto native embodies. This native will be very strong in the House in which this conjunction lies. The drawback to this conjunction is that the person may want to control too much. All good things can have a bad thing accompanying, but the world needs leaders and most people do not have the courage to lead. The Sun/Pluto native does.
Let’s discuss the Sun/Neptune conjunction. The Sun/Neptune conjunction is very different than the Sun/Pluto one. The Sun/Neptune native may want to be left on a quiet beach to meditate, create art, music or poetry ( or just to smoke dope) All of the latter are traits one could find in a Sun/Neptune native. Neptune is the planet of the creative, the planet of fantasy and the planet of escapism. Hence, the native may veer off in a variety of such directions. The father may not have been available to the native. Hence, the native may have to try to find his identity without the advantage of a positive male role model.
Let’s discuss the Sun/Mars conjunction. I have a close friend with this conjunction. He has a Libra Sun, which is not a strong Sun, conjunct Mars. He has a great deal of drive and motivation. He is someone who can do almost everything from build a house from the ground up to play guitar like Eric Clapton. I note how much motivation he has to reach his goals. This is classic for a Sun conjunct Mars. The father may have been aggressive or violent. His father was that. The drawback to this conjunction is that the person does not slow down enough. My friend has high blood pressure, which would fit with the nature of a very driving, goal oriented person.
Let’s discuss the Sun/Moon conjunction. This conjunction is not good if it is in combust. Combust refers to a very close conjunction of Mercury and the Sun. I apply it to other planets for learning purposes, although the technical term may be limited to the Sun/Mercury. Back to the subject, the Sun /Moon combust is a person who is too reactive. His ego is too close to his emotions. Hence, he may react before he thinks, not a good thing. The combust would be an exact conjunction to five degrees. More than five degrees in a conjunction would not confer this extreme reactivity. I would think this aspect would be a positive blending of the ego and heart. I have it in very wide degree. I cannot say for sure how this aspect functions, as I have not seen many cases of it. However, I think it would be a beneficial aspect, in which the person could combine his ego and heart to make good decisions.
I have not done all the Sun conjunctions. I will do a Part Two if you like this.
